General Description

 The Conley Nimbus Cloud Chamber is a 21U self contained Class 1A data center in a NEMA Type 4 enclosure.

NEMA Type 4 Enclosures:  constructed for either indoor or outdoor use to provide a degree of protection to personnel against access to hazardous parts; to provide a degree of protection of the equipment inside the enclosure against ingress of solid foreign objects (falling dirt and windblown dust); to provide a degree of protection with respect to harmful effects on the equipment due to the ingress of water (rain, sleet, snow, splashing water, and hose directed water); and that will be undamaged by the external formation of ice on the enclosure”                                                                    National Electrical Manufacturers Association

The Conley Cloud Chambers has the same enviromentals, power flexibility, internal monitoring and security that exist within a Class 1A data center.

The outside dimensions of the Nimbus Cloud Chamber are: 44″H x 26.75″W x 38.5″D. This includes the 1″  mounting blocks located on the top and base of the chamber. The mounting blocks creates a platform for attaching: levelers, casters base unit, tree stands, turntables, awnings, cable ladders and raceways.

The Cloud Chambers are structurally superior to other cabinets. The frame work, which includes the solid side panel, top and base are constructed of 14 gauge rolled steel and are welded into a union-body component. The doors and removable side panels are of 16 gauge roll steel.

A 14 gauge steel, adjustable numbered, 21U rack mount rail system with adjustability from 26.5″ to 28″ in length is installed within the chamber. Optional fiberboards can be fasten, to the doors, providing a place to mount security panels and/or non rack mounted equipment.

There are three possible ways for the network cables to enters the chamber: top, base and side panel  with an optional cable manager.

The top and the base has 2 sets of knockout impressions each. There are a total of 4 sets of cable conduit  knockouts on the chamber. A set  consists of  2- 3″‘/2″/1″ knockout impression per set. A three inch diameter conduit has a maximum capacity of 54 -60 cat 5 cables.

The side panel with the optional cable manager provides access through the side of the chamber.  Within the cable manager an assortment of cable glands with opening ranging from:.177″-( a fiber network cable) to .984″-(bundles of 18 to 20 CAT 5 or 6E cables) can be installed to meet the user needs.

Cooling the chamber is accomplished by air conditioners with NEMA 12 or NEMA 4 ratings.

 The air-conditioners for the Nimbus Cloud Chambers are available in five sizes with either a NEMA 4 or 12 ratings. All the air-conditioners have condensation evaporation units, so external plumbing is not necessary. The cooling of the models range from: 263 Watts to 2 kW. The Conley Cloud Chambers are uniquely design to accept two air conditioning units; augmenting the existing cooling or to supply redundancy cooling (N+N).

There are door and opening sensors that controls the operation of the
air -conditioner(s). When a door or side panel is open the air-conditioner(s) turns off; when closed it turns on. This helps prevent condensation from developing within the chamber when the unit is open.

The air-conditioners are monitored by the chamber controller. If a problems occurs within the mechanical operations of the unit and alarm/alert is sent.

The Chambers have a exclusive air flow plenum design that forces the cold air to the front of the equipment, where the systems intakes are, and a hot air return in the back. This provide superior cooling to the equipment while adding efficiency to the cooling systems. This simulate the hot/cool aisle scenario that is best practice within the Class 1A data center.

The Conley Cloud Chambers are equipped with a fire suppression system that is electrically monitored and activated. Two smoke detectors are installed in a series; this prevents false readings from accidentally activating the two agents canisters. The detectors are connect to the chamber’s controller. Upon activation an alarm /alert is sent.

The canisters are located at the front, attached to the base, and the other on the top at the rear of the chamber. The canister are fill with 60 grams Stat-X of aerosol agent .

Stat-X is the only condensed aerosol currently listed by Underwriter’s Laboratories (UL). It is also listed/approved by Underwriter’s Laboratories of Canada (ULC), the Maritime and Coast Guard Agency (MCA) in UK, CSIRO/ActivFire in Australia, American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), European Control Board (ECB), and many more. In addition, it has been approved for sale by the local AHJ in many areas of the world including Asia, the Pacific Rim, the Middle East, South and Central America, Europe, the United States, and Canada.

The power distribution system consist of: two NEMA 4 junction boxes located on the outside of the chambers – one junction box is designated for the air conditioner(s) and the other for the power used by the network equipment. All wiring passing through the chambers walls/panels run though cable glands.

An internal high voltage electrical box that houses the terminal block and the 3- 4″ receptacle boxes that contain the isolated grounded receptacles. Two receptacle boxes have 120V – 20AMP: L5 -20R twist lock receptacles and one holds a quad arrangement of 120V-20AMP: 5-20R receptacles.

Optional receptacles configuration includes: 230v- 30 AMP:L6-20R twist lock,
120v-30AMP: L5-30R and 230v-30AMP: l6-30R.

A second internal electrical box is dedicated to low voltage. This box contains the terminal block, relays and transformers that powers the internal systems of the chambers. Standard powering of the low voltage electrical box is a 120V – 20Amp cord with a 5-20P that can either be plug into a UPS (not provided in the standard configuration) or into one of the 5-20R receptacle.

Illumination within the chamber is supplied by 4 – 1′ long LED lights strips, each provides warm white lights at 314 Lm/ft.. The  strips located on each side of the front and rear doors. When the door(s) are open the air conditioner(s) turns off and the lights turns on; when the door(s) are closed the air conditioner(s) turns on and the light turn off.

A left hand swing with full length line hinges are standard on the doors ( swings opposite side of the air conditioner(s)). Each door has mounting screws for attaching a fiberboard used for security panels and non-rack mounted equipment. There is a 3.5″ clearance between the door (with the fiberboard attached) and the rail assembly.

Each door has a grounding studs. A 16″ braid grounding strap attaches to the stud and the chamber to ground the door.

A IP 65 rated swing handle with a key lock on both doors are standard on the  chambers. The handles are connected to a three point cam/rod compression system. Upgrades are available on the handles and locks to padlock handles, electrical/mechanical swing handle locks that HID card reads – embedded in the handle or stand alone, key pad systems or biometric systems can be integrated.

The Conley Cloud Chamber controller is a self-contained unit with on-board temperature and humidity/dew-point sensors.  The Chamber’s controller allows users to keep an eye on remote conditions from a secure web interface and receive SNMP,
E-mail, text message and voice call* alert notifications when user-adjustable thresholds are exceeded.

The web interface provides an overview of environmental measurements with real time sensor data. All measurements are logged allowing users to collect data for trending and capacity management. The controller offers flexible access rights and security settings with up to three access account levels. It offers secure access through the web and supports HTTP and HTTPS protocols. Up to 50 customizable alarms can be configured with alarm escalations per sensor.

The Conley Chambers have the capacity to add optional sensors, devices and alarms: water ropes, water sensor, temperature/humidity sensors, power meters, web cameras, auto dialers and beacon/sirens.

Standard Conley Chambers controller functions:

4 panel sensors: 2 – doors, A/c panel and side panel

These sensors control the A/c -the Lights and the controller will log when the unit is open and close – general opening – any door or side panel- all on the same circuit. Lights turn on if any sensor is activated only turn off when every opening is closed.
